Question #78252 on Ubuntu changed:

Tom proposed the following answer:
Ram takes ages to check. Please can you first try booting up from the cd. You should get to a menu with "Try Ubuntu without changes to this machine", if not here's a guide to hopefully help
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD
Choosing the "Try Ubuntu ... " should get you to a working desktop which
we call a "LiveCD session", if it works. Firefox on the top taskbar
should get you onto the internet, if the machine has access - so you
could post into the threads here using that. It's good to use a LiveCd
session to give a demo of Ubuntu on a machine before installing to that
machine - it will be slower than the hard-drive install but it helps
check that the hardware works easily.
When you say you are using sata hard-drives are these in a software
"raid array" or otherwise "raided" drives?
If you're not sure about the cd it might be worth making another using this guide to help make a really good one
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
i tend to find really cheap "write once" cds are better for this sort of thing than more expensive kinds
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
