[Question #78263]: cannot connect to internet. comcast is my provider with ethernet connection

New question #78263 on Ubuntu:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78263

have recently built a recycled computer and installed it with ubuntu (yay). I have an ethernet cable with a broadband modem.I'm trying to connect to the internet and having no success. I have Comcast as my internet provider. I have read some of the other posts. about calling Comcast and getting my modem provisioned, about powering everything down and starting it all back up, and about resetting the modem. So I don't know what to do. After I type this post, I will power down and try that.( I only have one connection for two computers) If you could help me this, that would be great. I can't wait to get off this windows based computer and onto ubuntu!

I am led to believe that with an ethernet connection, I don't have to reconfigure the settings in my computer. Is this true??

Ok. I powered down, and tried pushing the reset button on my modem with no success. I have an ethernet cable connection for internet, and it's hooked up with a modem, but aside from that, i'm not sure what kind of connection that i have, except that is is broadband.
