Teg proposed the following answer:
Did you made a search for your problem e.g. vlc BadAlloc (insufficient
resources for operation) ?
I have found some forum threads with the same problem :
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=104445
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=32259
In short, you seem to have a problem with your video output settings.
The solution seems to be to set the output to X11.
>From the links above for VLC :
"go to Settings>Preferences>Video>>Output Modules. Tick the Advanced Options and set Video output module to X11 video output. Save your settings and restart your application"
or
start VLC in a terminal using "vlc --vout x11"
Hope that can help, the same should be possible to do with other video
players.
