Thanks for your feedback about this.  As a work-around can you access
web-mail?  I guess you've already tried reconfiguring Thunderbird?  It
seems odd that Thunderbird and IM doesn't work because i didn't think
they took much bandwidth - i've not really explored them so i gues you'd
know more about that already.
