Re: [Question #78177]: No GUI after update

Question #78177 on xorg in ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+question/78177

    Status: Open => Answered

Sam proposed the following answer:
> Turning on splash reveals only warning about hdaps

You mean 'off', but anyway that's good news.

> Does it make something clearer?

Thanks, but
#112 WARNING: gdm_cleanup_children: child 6298 crashed of signal 6
#113 WARNING: gdm_cleanup_children: Slave crashed, killing its children
repeated ten times, line 172,173,232,233,293,294,354,355,415,416,545,546,605,606,665,666,787,788

no, just what we know already - 'something bad going on' - really helpful. Loop, race ... whatever.
#426
WARNING: The display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90 seconds. It is likely that something bad is going on. Waiting for 2 minutes before trying again on display :0.

But don't give up.
Please consult:
~/.xession-errors
/var/log/gdm

And you may read this, it has some answers about this weird issue:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/my-gdm-not-working-in-lenny-585093/?s=54901f0776014818ec5fea4a209b8dab

http://library.gnome.org/admin/gdm/stable/troubleshooting.html.en

Simple search brought up the issue from Dapper over Lenny to Gentoo and
Fedora. Seems to be a XServer hiccup after an update.

If nothing helps, I'd file a bug and see it as contribution.
