actionparsnip proposed the following answer:
Could always use the windows xp 32bit driver + ndiswrapper if all else
fails. Have you looked into /etc/network/interfaces? You can define
network pairings in there and will override any settings applied with
network manager / wifi-radar. Its not graceful but if it pairs and works
using that method then we know the drivers are ok.
