The version number doesn't matter too much. Just boot-up into a LiveCd
session. The i reckon that just copying the /var/lib folder from the
LiveCd session onto your hard-drive in the right partition should be
enough to at least allow you to boot into your hard-drive's install ;)
It wont be happy about it so i would use "recovery mode" to "Fix broken
packages" or perhaps find that option inside synpatic package manager
when you get back inside your hard-drive's Ubuntu ;)
