Hi

The LiveCd session works fine? Straight through "Try Ubuntu without
changes to this machine" and into a working desktop?

Error 25 is something to do with a hard-drive error. Some people seem
to have cured it by messing around in their bios, changing drives to LBA
mode in there but i'm usually wary of the bios. Could you go up to the
top taskbar and click on

Applications - Accessories - Terminal

and into the terminal/command window/terminal type in

sudo fdisk -l

Note that " -l" is a lower-case " -L". Also note that typing -h" after
a command gives a quick help cheat-sheet on how to use a command. Try

fsck -h

as it might be worth scanning your drive and perhaps also fix errors as you scan but i'm not sure how to use fsck this late at night. Also a fix listed for 8.04 is likely to work for 9.04 although that's not always the case obviously. Something that might help us is knowing how much space you have given Ubuntu and how much to swap. Also your ram-size and perhaps cpu speed might be good to know
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
