Hi :)

There's a few things here.  Try going up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

it asks for your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one.  All
packages that are currently installed and available for you to use are
marked by a green splodge.  Either search tool is good but i prefer the
"Search" button because it looks through package descriptions as well as
titles so it lets me be a lot more vague.  Try looking up "vnc" or
perhaps "tunnel" (and "wesnoth").  To install something new right-click
and choose "install".  When you have selected everything you want to try
out then click on "Apply".

Also to look up equivalent software that you know the name of in Windows

but linux offers a lot of stuff the Windows doesn't have.  If you are in competition with a Windows user for which is better; linux or Windows then it's probably better to just leave it and let him get on with his thing because he will probably be using linux soon enough anyway. Given all the security issues in the Windows world your friend has
probably already made sure that the security on his machine is ultra-
tight because he will be expecting you to try to grab control of it and
so his security might be focussed on stopping you.  The best answer
isn't to chase what he's already done but to get ahead at something else
;)  Sounds like a good fun game :))

Oh and at the beginning of your message you kindly say "Hi ubuntu team"
which sounds as though you haven't yet realised that you have already
joined "the ubuntu team"  yourself :)  Welcome in to the wonderful world
of linux :))
