Tom proposed the following answer:
Err that is going to re-instate your older version of Ubuntu but we want
to sort out a newer one .  Ubuntu is really going to need 5Gb and the
linux-swap needs 1.5Gb so in gparted please right-click on the 76Gb
partition and resize it down to leave 6.5 to 7 Gb free at the end of the
drive.  Ok?  Did gparted cope or did it get all confused for a moment?
