Question #79290 on Ubuntu changed:

Status: Open => Answered
Mark Rijckenberg proposed the following answer:
Did you make sure to set all channels to high volume levels in gnome-
alsamixer? (as I wrote before)
Did you make sure all the different speakers (including 'Front',
'Master', and 'PCM") are NOT muted and NOT set to low volume levels in
gnome-alsamixer?
Have you tried upgrading ALSA to the newest version?
ALSA upgrade procedure is here:
http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2009/05/09/upgrade-alsa-1020-on-
ubuntu-jaunty-904/
Did you set up Ubuntu as described here?
http://www.red91.com/2008/05/11/my-ubuntu-8-04-linux-setup
After upgrading ALSA, please reboot and retest sound.
