Dennis Prochko proposed the following answer:
Try to enter into the BIOS (hold Del key when booting) and switch
bootable HDD to other HDD than currently selected. I suppose you have
WinXP boot loader into one HDD (it doesn't show the menu and boot Linux)
and GRUB boot loader into another HDD, but your BIOS is configured to
boot from first HDD.
