Hi Neil,
Currently proxies are not supported for file sync (it is being worked on
by the U1 devs). However, it seems like the commands listed at
http://bit.ly/caHbOf should work from behind a proxy.

Some of the workarounds in this bug report may be worth trying (comment
#8 & #11)
