Title:
blender crashes when changing from object mode to edit mode

Status in “blender” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: blender

Blender crashes when changing from "object mode" to "edit mode" in
that way, that there is no way to do anything on the system - no input
is possible, no log-in in terminal mode and process killing. The
system can only be re-started with the reset button.

Maybe a list of my hardware is helpful:

  Laptop Dell Latitude C600
  UBUNTU 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex)
Grafic Card ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2x (rev 02)
  10GB HD
  256MB RAM.

  Blender Software: 2.46+dfsg-4 (intrepid)

  Greetings
  Ruediger
