[Bug 696256] Re: Option to discard RAW files

I plusify this ticket because I can't (really can't) use Shotwell if it
works with our raws.

We have a folder with all our photos, classified as we want into our
subfolders. And we configured Shotwell to follow this folder and import
all new files, and update all modifications (with tags inside JPG).

This folder is sync (with btsync or other) with other computers, and
with a server for backup.

Our Raws are in the same folder, same classification, etc. But Raws is
for *develop photos* and it's OUR job to do that ! We absolutely don't
want to have *automatic* ugly JPGs from our Raws, added to our folder
and especially then : added to all sync computers !

We want to develop our photos ourselves, export the good ones in JPGs,
and only them have to be imported into Shotwell to classify them. Not
raws and their *false* JPGs.

Even if there was not the synchronization, we don't want to have false
JPGs beside our Raws in our local computer (and yes, Raws must be sorted
in the same folder, we don't want to have another folder with all the
same classification, it's not usable and maintainable).

That's why we also want to disable Raw support in Shotwell in order to
use it (and I want to use it…).

Title:
  Option to discard RAW files

Status in Shotwell:
  Unknown
Status in “shotwell” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: shotwell

Shotwell includes some previewing features for raw files which seem to work quite well. But it slows down the computer a lot to generate the mimics and eats a lot of disc space. I already found a thread on the subject on the mailing list, to discard the mimics folder :
  http://lists.yorba.org/pipermail/shotwell/2010-August/000825.html
But on my computer, I always store my own jpeg files generated from my raw files like this :
  photos/RAW/photo1.nef
  photos/JPG/photo1.jpg
I do not want to rely on the jpeg mimic or on any other embedded tool to generate the jpeg but have to use dedicated special tools, mainly for picture quality reasons. So, I always have a corresponding jpeg for all my raw files.
In shotwell I can then see all the pictures twice (one for the raw, the other one for the jpeg).

The best would be if shotwell could discard all raw files (menu
option, filename filter via command line...). This would solve my
issue and the issue reported on the mailing list above.

  I have shotwell Version: 0.8.0-1~maverick1

  Thanks !
