I am seeing the same thing.  The apparent hang during menu generation is
actually the menu getting larger and larger without limit.

  dvdstyler freezes during the step of menu creating

Status in “dvdstyler” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  DVDStyler freezes during the step of menu creating. Label "Menu
  generating" appears , the processor running at 50% and I can expect a
  lot of minutes, nothing happens. However, the "cancel" button is
  active, I can click and the process of menu creating will fail.

  DVDStyler 2.7.2 , Kubuntu 14.10, kernel 3.17.2-031702-generic x86_64
