Scott,

I think I may understand what is going on. When I first had the problem
over a year ago, the existing svmono.layout  file may have been the
problem (not sure though). Now, I am having some disk corruption
problems where some files are not showing up, svmono.layout being one of
them. Because of the disk corruption,  I think LyX may be using an old
svmono.layout file which does have a problem with the screen display.

I don't want to waste your time, so please put this bug report on hold
until I can eliminate my HD problems. Once my HD is healthy I will let
you know either way about the problem I have been having with svmono.
Hopefully a healthy HD will fix the problem.

The responsiveness of the LyX team is truly amazing!

  Lyx does not work properly with Springer's svmono book class.

Bug description:
  I am writing book with Springer. I have a problem trying to use svmono with Lyx that I think could easily be fixed by the LyX developers. I have asked them, but I have not gotten any response. Maybe if someone from Springer contacted them they might take the request seriously. The problem is this: 
  In the LyX/Latex source code (not the typeset version) the section numbering does not update with the chapter. For example you get

  Chapter 1
  	Section 1
  	Section 2
  Chapter 2
  	Section 3
  	Section 4
  …etc

  I would like to have

  Chapter 1
  	Section 1
  	Section 2
  Chapter 2
  	Section 1
  	Section 2
  …etc
  -------- OR --------
  Chapter 1
  	Section 1.1
  	Section 1.2

  2Chapter 2
  	Section 2.1
  	Section 2.2
  …etc
