Re: [Bug 1459525] Re: Amount of fonts distributed are too many - brings down loading time for applications
To me this is akin to saying that too many brushes are shipped with the
graphics package because your computer is too slow.
We shouldn't be decreasing functionality if after ~5+ years of shipping
that functionality we receive one user complaint. If everyone was seeing
the slowdown, that'd be different. I certainly haven't seen inkscape crash
due to font selection.
One easy way forward would be to adjust the font meta to only carry roman
character fonts and move the non-roman characters to a fonts-extra
package. That would at least help the user's complaint. Still, just
uninstalling the font meta would be a better solution for the user. That
solution would keep the cross-cultural abilities of the distro.

Amount of fonts distributed are too many - brings down loading time
for applications

Bug description:
A user reported this issue the Ubuntu Studio contact mail, and I found it was a fair point.
We should minimize the fonts we distribute to an amount which is reasonable.
