[Bug 1459525] Re: Amount of fonts distributed are too many - brings down loading time for applications

As the user who originally complained, I would like to thank the team
for all their hard work. My intention is to give user feedback and
provide assistance if needed. Perhaps I am not the average user. I am a
professional designer who got stung by the Linux bug several years ago
and is now a slave to FOSS.

Regarding fonts, I have my own personal library of over 2500 typefaces
collected over the past 20 years. I rarely if ever use the fonts
included in Ubuntu Studio. That said, my ideal operating system would
have only the most basic fonts installed out-of-the-box and allow me to
manage what I need, when I need it. The ability to tweak a system or
build one from the ground up is something that makes Linux attractive. I
especially like Ubuntu Studio's installer which saves me a lot of time,
choosing only the packages I want with each new install. The opposite is
true of typefaces. You get all the packages, then are forced to remove
useless ones.

I have no idea what fonts are essential to Ubuntu Studio and which are
not. If I could have this information, then perhaps I will simply write
a tool that removes everything except the core fonts and you can close
this bug. Thanks for taking the time to address my concern.

Bug description:
A user reported this issue the Ubuntu Studio contact mail, and I found it was a fair point.
We should minimize the fonts we distribute to an amount which is reasonable.
