Title:
  blender: build revision unknown

Status in blender package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  $ blender --version
  ...
  build revision: unknown
  ...

  The problem is not obvious but it arises when trying to install an
  add-on in which this python code is used:

  bpy.app.build_revision

  For example, this one:

  https://github.com/zeffii/GL-fillet/

  The plugin is added from the user preferences interface but it is
  impossible to activate.

  The solution for me has been installing blender from ppa:irie/blender.
