Looks more like a kernel or FFDAO issue than an Ubuntu Studio issue, and
ancient bug, so closing.

Bug description:
  10.10 64bit JACK wont start for me like it used to. i installed
  Alessio Igor Bogani's realtime kernel for 11.04 from
  https://launchpad.net/~abogani/+archive/ppa as a work around, and JACK
  started and runs reliably
