Title:
kdenlive doesn't recommend or suggest useful encoders
Status in kdenlive package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Binary package hint: kdenlive
I want to render my video in MPEG-4 format but kdenlive doesn't tell
me what codec I need. At least many of the packages containing these
codecs are not suggested or recommended by the kdenlive package.
In the rendering options there is a list of video formats to choose
from, as I select them the available quality settings are visible on
the right. By default these formats are not supported:
MPEG-4
XVid4
H.264
Flash
By selecting the blue ( i ) button I get some more information which
looks like a list of relevant audio and video encoders. For example
with MPEG-4 selected and the ( i ) button pressed I get the following
text:
f=mp4 acodec=libmp3lame ab=128k ar=44100 vcodec=mpeg4 minrate=0 b=200k
aspect=%dar mbd=2 trellis=1 mv4=1
I assume this means that the audio codec is libmp3lame and the video
codec is mpeg4. But many of the listed codecs do not exist as packages
in the Ubuntu repositories. So what can I do but report this as a
usability bug?
