Message #12163
[Bug 2072684] [NEW] Calamares requires excessive space for EFI
Public bug reported:
1) Kubuntu 24.04
2) Calamares 3.2.41.1-0ubuntu4
3) Calamares should install to ANY size EFI partition if sufficient
space is available.
4) Calamares claims it "needs" a 300MB EFI file system size. In fact,
the EFI space actually required is less than 8mb.
This FALSE warning causes many users to re-partition drive space or skip
installing Kubuntu altogether because virtually NO other distros require
an EFI file system this large. Commonly, Windows users attempt dual
booting with Kubuntu encounter this false warning because the typical
EFI partition is 100mb to 256mb depending on Windows version and age.
The correct behavior would be to check available space on an existing
EFI file system and install WITHOUT COMMENT if there is suitable free
space, for instance 10mb or more.
** Affects: calamares (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
