Title:
Kubuntu 25.04 beta offline minimal installation crash
Status in calamares package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
[Testing performed by uploader]
In order to test this update, I performed three tests which should
fully cover all parts touched by this commit, and more. This being
said, we'll need to re-run the entire testing suite for Lubuntu,
Kubuntu, and Ubuntu Unity. I'm prepared to help.
First, I downloaded Lubuntu Plucky daily 20250415.2 and launched it in
a BIOS QEMU/KVM virtual machine on a fully-updated, freshly-rebooted
Plucky host. I then used a local apt archive to make the patch
available to the virtual machine, installing it.
I then followed these exact steps:
1. Disable networking (right-click on the icon in the panel and uncheck "Enable Networking".)
2. Double-click the "Install Lubuntu 25.04" icon on the desktop, noting that Calamares recognizes there is no network.
3. Time zone can stay at America/New York, but I set it to America/Chicago. I also kept the default keyboard layout settings.
4. Keep the radio button at Normal Installation.
5. Select Erase Disk / ext4 / No Swap.
6. User/password details don't matter, but I selected auto login.
7. Confirm the beginning of the installation, and wait for it to successfully finish.
8. Reboot and confirm all is well.
This was successful.
I then downloaded Ubuntu Unity daily 20250415.5 and launched it in a
UEFI (but not Secure Boot) QEMU/KVM virtual machine on a fully-
updated, freshly-rebooted Plucky host. I then used a local apt archive
to make the patch available to the virtual machine, installing it.
I then followed these exact steps:
1. Disable networking (left-click on the icon in the panel and click "Disconnect".)
2. Double-click the "Install Ubuntu Unity 25.04" icon on the desktop, noting that Calamares recognizes there is no network.
3. Time zone can stay at America/New York, but I set it to America/Chicago. I also kept the default keyboard layout settings.
4. Select Minimal Installation.
5. Select Erase Disk / xfs / Swap to file.
6. User/password details don't matter, but I selected auto login.
7. Confirm the beginning of the installation, and wait for it to successfully finish.
I finally downloaded Kubuntu daily FIXME and launched it in a UEFI +
Secure Boot (/usr/share/OVMF/OVMF_CODE_4M.secboot.fd) QEMU/KVM virtual
machine on a fully-updated, freshly-rebooted Plucky host. I then used
a local apt archive to make the patch available to the virtual
machine, installing it.
I then followed these exact steps:
1. Disable networking (left-click on the icon in the panel and click "Disconnect" next to your internet source.)
2. Double-click the "Install Kubuntu 25.04" icon on the desktop, noting that Calamares recognizes there is no network.
3. Time zone can stay at America/New York, but I set it to America/Chicago. I also kept the default keyboard layout settings.
4. Select Minimal Installation.
5. Select Erase Disk / btrfs / No swap / Encrypt system.
6. User/password details don't matter, but I did *not* select auto login for this last one.
7. Confirm the beginning of the installation, and wait for it to successfully finish.
[Original Description]
Installation of Kubuntu 25.04 beta (using daily iso) with no internet and minimal installation crash.
Calamares segfault. Keyboard and mouse are disable so you can't do anything. Shutown (ACPI) is only solution.
Last debug information before crash :
Installing packages: Reading state information / Installing packages: Reading package lists...
