Message #12986
[Bug 2117106] [NEW] calamares 3.3.14 in kubuntu 25.10 crashes with segmentation fault on choosing to encrypt partition
Public bug reported:
When choosing to encrypt a partition during install, calamares will
crash with sig11 upon selecting the partition and entering two matching
passwords.
To reproduce:
- Go through the installation procedure until you get to "Partitions". (This is on a machine that already contains a Windows 11 installation from the factory.)
- Choose Replace Partition
- Enable "Encrypt filesystem"
- Choose the partition to replace with Kubuntu
- Enter your chosen passphrase in the "Passphrase" text field
- Enter the same passphrase in the "Confirm passphrase" text field
At this point, the installer will crash, and if running on Plasma, a
Dr.Konqi window will pop up. If running running the installer directly,
i.e. if the user chose "Install" instead of "Try" on the boot up menu,
the installer will seem to disappear and be replaced by a Plasma desktop
starting up.
There was no backtrace to be had from the LiveCD version, but I have
attached the console output of calamares below.
** Affects: calamares (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
** Attachment added: "calamares console output"
