[HG UFL] Started sketch of transformation function template using easier-to-understand if-sequences instead of the dictionary approach in transformers.py, but this quickly grows large. May use this approach for some functions where only a couple of types are interesting though. Do not bother to look at it, its just a mess now :-).

Redesigned recursive function strip_variables to reuse unchanged subtrees.
This design should be applicable to other similar functions.
