[Bug 776867] Re: Unity option defeats UGR's purpose

I agree 100% with everything JC Hulce has said here, but I'd also like
to point out a few things.

Gnome 3 will have a fall-back mode. The GUI already exists although the
last time I looked it doesn't work. You can however "force" the fall-
back as I described here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10662567&postcount=49

Most importantly note that I said, "Please create a backup before trying
this with gnome3". ATM if you break it, you own it!

Many common applets will not work:

I think, besides being able to use Unity, we've considered creating a
"retro-gnome" version somewhat like you'd get now if you installed the
package 'gnome-desktop-environment' which gives you basically the Debian
Squeeze desktop experience.

There has also been some talk about a "gnome-lite" version and while all
of these things are good ideas I think we must stay focused on job #1
;^)

Somewhat OT but I'm honestly wondering if we wouldn't benefit from a
sub-forum here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=249

I've never tried to start one but I'd be willing to try if all of the
major contributors to the project agree. If they don't agree I'm fine
with that too :^)

I just sometimes think we're turning our corner of Launchpad into a
discussion of UGR, but that's just my opinion.

I'm looking forward to testing the first Live CD.

Title:
  Unity option defeats UGR's purpose

Status in UGR unity session option:
  Opinion

Bug description:
The idea of UGR was to have Ubuntu with Gnome 3 INSTEAD OF Unity. Why
are we adding a session option for Unity?
