Hmm.. i though i had done that. It do install to the correct folder if
the deb is used. I am not sure exactly what Launchpad need... I will go
through the source again to see if something looks suspicious.

Status in The GNOME windowing font, packaged for UGR:

Bug description:
  The cantarell font is not available to be used in any program or part
  of the system after installing the package.  This is because the font
  is installed to /ttf, and it should be installed to
  /usr/share/fonts/ttf
