Btw: Another idea, but I don't know if it's too cheesy would be to make
the circle around the e act like a spinner animation during startup as
well as shutdown.

For example on a light gray background, with black logo you could then
have a mid-gray point rotate on the black path of the circle, counter
clock-wise to act as a spinner.

The specifics of how to design this would have to be trialed out.
