Message #00056
Giving up
Hello everybody,
I really thought this project was a good idea (and generally, I still
think). This was not supposed to be yet another big words and no results
project. But now I see no gain in pushing this project further.
To quickly sum up the main reasons for my decision:
* Folks with Python seems to be a dead end, at least for now. I
contacted folks devs, gee devs, and PyGI devs. But for the time
being, there seems no way of getting these three to play nicely
with each other.
* Learning vala is not an option for me at the moment, and no one
with vala knowledge stepped up to take over this task.
* Canonical seems to have started implementing a contacts lens on
their own. At least I saw a screenshot related to the just
announced Ubuntu for Android:

The Canonical solution seems to be very close to our design ideas, and
there is no point in duplicating efforts. I just hope that it will land
in mainsteam Ubuntu soon. My main interest was to have a contact search
solution by the time when Precise will replace Lucid on my work
computer, since I will loose my deskbar based contact search then. I am
unsure if the Canonical lens will make it into Precise, but this single
point for me does not justify developing a redundant solution.
However, I wanted to thank you for joining the team and being interested
in the project.
Cheers
Frederik
