[Bug 1232633] Re: Changing volume doesn't show feedback on the phone
As Matthew says, this is not an issue with the sound menu. Unity8
listens to the volume keys and shows the notification bubbles.

Not an indicator of volume status when it makes adjusting volume
(Nexus 4)
