The option is in System > Preferences > Appearance > Interface
(Editable menu shortcut keys)

I think the shortcuts should be displayed when a meta key is pressed,
at the very least. I also use the menus to discover keyboard shortcuts
I didn't know about.

(Sorry for replying just to you at first, Barry. I wish Gmail would
guess when I meant to hit reply to all :-D)
