Re: Software Center Donate Button

 

While this is offtopic, I thought I might respond to this whole issue here.

Donations from a central point are a bad idea, because if you make it
easy for developers to earn money from a project, then it creates an
onus on the developers to do more than they might already be doing. I
have observed this a lot, where people seem to equivocate "donation"
with the actual "paying for" something. This means that developers
have to give an unfair priority to the people who donated interests
rather than their own.

If a developer was willing to take that risk, then they should be the
ones who collect donations for their project, rather than being
arbitrarily paid for something they are giving away for free.
