Please consider using XDG folder specifications:

$Home/Pictures/Screenshots for user data and
$Home/.cache/screenshots/ for the temporary cache

Everyone in Ayatana should be well read on freedesktop.org specs so we
don't reinvent wheels or worse, fail to utilise great standards already
in use:

More results from our thoughts here should probably make their way to
FDO too.
