It seems neither Evolution nor Thunderbird supports displaying animated
gif.

Two attachements. One animated gif and one static png (with all states,
but without the transition to the hovered state, which is the most
valuable information in the animation).

Click : mute/unmute

Hover : Button from grey to white
Click and drag : Change volume

Hover : Text from grey to white
Click : Opens Rhythmbox

Hover : Text from grey to white
Click : Nothing

Hover : Nothing
Click : Navigates current sound

#6 
Hover : Nothing
Click : Navigates sound library

#7 
Hover : Menu item highlighting
Click : Opens global sound preferences

It's something small here, and could be worth a wishlist bug report on
the sound menu, but it also could lead to specs about the appearance and
the behavior of all those new menu items that are coming to our
desktops.
