i was very proud to find an extra thread for a simple punchline in packed
into another mail...

moving away from the necessity to confront the user with abstract technical
metaphors has always been a goal. Especially the "File" metaphor has been
keeping developers from working on solutions that really address document
type, content and useful display of metainformation.

Take a song for example.
You're looking for "Chill Me Out" from the band "AC/BC".
Would you (as a user) prefer to search for an *.mp3 or *.mp4 in several
folders, or wouldn't it be easier to have the computer manager your music
for you and you would only have to type in a title or name?

That's where things are heading to on the long run, it's a long-term goal to
give the computer something in the near of context awareness, a building
block of intelligence.
This is quite close, but implementation is a b*tch as we all know, so i'll
rather keep my mouth sh#t until i have more useful news for you ;)

until then, please enjoy the work being done "upstream" by Seth; it's called
GNOME Storage:
