Re: No one will ever use the upper-left Ubuntu button

nr. 3 feels the most natural to me. It's transition is the least jarring,
and feels the most smooth. It really makes for a very nice work flow, and
also has a nice 'coolness' factor.

What I'd also really like to see is a version of the launcher, where instead
of opening a dash, or flipping the launcher, the launcher slides out instead
and shows all apps with a divided line for the ones that are always in the
launcher. So it would have the layout of the application dash, but be on the
left of the launcher.
The same principle would also work for places.

In that scenario we either free up the click role of the ubuntu button
entirely for something else, or we assign it to sliding out the launcher,
although, it seems to me that it would be more natural and logical to put an
arrow on the launcher icon for that. (So the apps icon would have an arrow
pointing to the right on it, and the same for the places icon).

I'd also really like to see the Ubuntu button becoming a dedicated, super
quick launcher, in synapse/gnome-do/kupfer style, but using the extra space
available to do 'more'.

I feel that these improvements would help to streamline the current
functionality, and really integrate well together. The launcher would feel
so much more focused, as it, one it's own, takes care of everything it
starts and offers (i.e. the application and places dash functionality).

If there is enough support for this idea, I'd be happy to try and find the
time to make a functional mock-up for this in the same style as david's, on
which we could base further discussion.

Kind regards,
Arian
