You might want to get an overview and then select all windows of a certain type. You'd do that by using super+num-num. So that is a useful feature. When you do get the overview of all windows of a given app, then you might want to quickly select one of them. That's when you'd use alt+num, like you do to access a given tab in Firefox, for instance. I don't think this would be confusing at all, specially since I propose that the items be given a number to show how you can switch to them. It would be more didatic than how tabs work in Firefox.
