I hope I am not raising something that has already been addressed in the
archives of this mailing list, but...
There are many features of Unity (and also Gnome-shell) that are
different from previous desktops and in that sense non-obvious.
Would it make sense to have a 'tips' application running, which would:
1) at startup, and then at some non-irritating interval throw up an OSD
notification with some tip about Unity UI shortcuts (or similar
features) -- an "inbox" of shown tips could be made available via the
messaging indicator menu (or maybe there is a better place for this?)
2) observe the users behaviour and use some simple heuristics to decide
on a tip that could be displayed (e.g. the 15th time that a user hits
the top panel to activate a menu, throw up a tip about using F10 or Alt
to activate menus, and similar)
3) should also include tips about finding further help (also in the tips
'inbox')
