What do you base this assumption on? Multiple commenters have
stated explicitly that they would be satisfied by such an option. If you
have evidence to the contrary, please present it.

The original "won't fix" status message hinted that this issue was open for
discussion. Now that it *has* been discussed and a patch has been produced,
isn't it time for the Unity team to step up? It is fine if a patch is
rejected on technical merits, design grounds or even time restraints - but
at least review it (or say that you cannot / will not, so people can stop
wasting time on fruitless efforts. "You" here refers to the people who could
handle such a review).
