having removed the advice on vm-fill-paragraphs-containing-long-lines as per the other bug report we were discussing, I find that the filling to window-width now works fine with 8.0.12, but that  no filling is done with the latest trunk.  this is probably be due to some other old customization I have around...?  I'll see if I can find something.
