I think starting out with a directory of .wmf files and run each in order from a shell script (i.e. always starting up Widelands and expecting it to terminate properly) would be a nice start and already useful. The ts.wmf has been usefull so often for me - and we have complete UI scripting too (e.g. you can simulate mouse clicks), so we can really recreate user stories with savegames and everything with this approach. I would also buy you a bunch of beers on the next wihack if you make this happen :).
