No, an absolute path begins with a slash (/) (afaik) and "data/" does not.
But i am not really sure though... But you could investigate the path for your self. Here on arch-linux the datadir path with the current setting is:
"/some/directory/widelands/./data/"
And that is wrong, instead it is right if you rename it in CMakeLists.txt to "data/".
