Instead of dropping gcc 4.9, I suggest making gcc 4.7 not-supported anymore. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS ships with gcc 4.8 and that is a reasonable lower bound to support. Afaik there is no supported linux distribution that still ships with 4.7.
