See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/527428
and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24/+bug/148428
Adding "RandRRotation" manually to xorg.conf made the rotate options
available in the nvidia-settings tool in 10.04 LTS, but when I tried
it again in 10.10 it didn't work and I had to manually set rotation
parameters in the configuration file. I haven't tried yet in Natty.
I haven't used a rotated display in a while but I do remember having
issues with compositing.
