On newer linux versions the ipython keybindigs F12, F11,… to start
Controller, 3D View don't work.

This problem started for ipython versions above 5.0. We have a proposed
fix:

But it behaves differently on each system version (ubuntu 14.04, ubuntu
16.04, debian stretch, devuan ascii).
