yeah, would be nice to have the old address yade-dem.org/doc back.

Not sure what would happen if we migrated wiki from
https://yade-dem.org/wiki/Yade
to
https://gitlab.com/yade-dev/trunk/wikis/home

then perhaps mirroring it back to https://yade-dem.org/wiki/Yade wouldn't be possible?
And so we would have »the hacky "gitlab.io" url substitution« but in the wiki address.
