I think the velocity after interaction in absolute coordinates should be
2.48 (=1.67 + 0.81).  With damping=0.04 it should be even a bit lower.

My idea was that the difference between 2.48 and 3.19 could occur, when the time step is too big.
I dont know if vadim tested this ...
