for two colliding spheres i get following timesteps:

PFC with viscous damping: 0.919e-4
PFC without viscous damping: 0.832e-4

YADE with viscous damping: 1.127e-4
YADE without viscous damping: 1.127e-4

conclusion:
- timestep determinations are different
- timestep determ. in PFC takes account for viscous damping

But this does not explain the small timesteps I observed.
