I really support Jan's suggestion.
I usually instruct everyone to type only "git add file1" and "git commit file1". Never trust the default.
I usually have many "file.cpp~" here and there (automatic backup), kdevelop can also modify or create a few files.
Not mentioning people who build in the source dir...
If we suggest "add ." and "commit -a" to everyone, problems frequency will increase. :)
